GREETINGS !
-the mun’s name is NEMO! 27 years of age. this is a roleplay blog for the character MATT MURDOCK, otherwise known as DAREDEVIL.
-this matt murdock is primarily based on NETFLIX DAREDEVIL/THE DEFENDERS with comic book knowledge ( of which i will pick & choose from). my thoughts and headcanons will change the more comics I read. all the headcanons on this blog are my own ( please don’t steal them ) and all opinions are my own. being that the show has been out for a while now, I don’t feel the need to tag spoilers.
-my activity varies. i work 40 hours a week, taking an online class, and take naps often. please don’t rush me!
-i understand that some people are uncomfortable/triggered by catholic views & religion. however, religion is a big part of matt’s character and background ( and it will show up frequently on this blog), so I don’t want to erase that. i promise that i won’t push his beliefs on anyone; matt doesn’t agree with some of their views either.
-if you only do contact on discord, please send me a message and I’ll throw my dm at you. HOWEVER, i am more comfortable on the instant messenger of tumblr until i feel like we’ve established a connection. i understand not everyone likes this, so as long as you actually intend to talk with me on discord, i will give out my tag.

-i don’t like drama. it makes me nervous and uncomfortable, and I already deal with enough stress in my life as it is. if your dash is constantly filled with nothing but drama, i will unfollow. i won’t tolerate any hate/guilt tripping on this. please keep me out of any drama that may unfold. if it has nothing to do with me, PLEASE don’t involve me. if i’m writing with someone who’s done something disgusting ( being transphobic, racist, ableist, etc. ), you can tell me. but if it’s someone you’ve had beef with in the past, just… don’t throw names. don’t vague posts constantly. please.

-this is simple. if i follow you, i want to write with you. i can’t always throw myself into threads because i may not have the time, but eventually i would like to. i unfollow anyone if they become inactive over time, don’t interact with me after a certain period, or post hate/negativity. vague blogging is a sure way to make me feel uneasy and eventually unfollow.

-i am not a meme source. if i reblog a meme and you don’t feel like sending something in, that’s fine! but please reblog it from the source. i don’t mind if you do it occasionally — not all memes will work with our characters — but if you’re someone who hasn’t bothered to interact with me, and just continues to reblog my memes, using me as a source, i will unfollow. this is mainly to help with my anxiety, and it’s also a matter of respecting me as a person! i don’t feel appreciated when someone just uses me as a source of reblogging things from. again, i don’t mind if it happens once in a while, but when it becomes a habit, that’s when it becomes an issue.
FORMATTING & WRITING
-i’m not the biggest fan of formatting my post. i usually change it up now and again, but it’s not something that’ll have a lot attention from me. if you feel like my formatting is hurting your eyes, please feel free to ask and I’ll change it! as for other people and their formatting, i’m not overly fond of heavily formatted posts. if that’s your thing, it’s fine, but if it’s hard for me to read, it’ll become hard for me to focus on your words. i get migraines often, so eye strains will set them off.
-I’m up for any form of roleplay: banter, multi-para, etc. just note that the longer the replies are, the longer it’ll take for me to reply. i don’t normally proof read my replies ( as it will take me even longer to get through responses ) so expect some typos.

-i love to ship, but i will not tolerate force shipping. this means that if i have told you i don’t feel comfortable shipping or have told you i’d like to see where it leads first, do not send me shippy memes ( unless i’ve said in the tags that you can). i love to plot out headcanons and threads with my partner, and i very much like to become friends with those i’m in a ship with. if you’re interested in a ship, you can always message me! i can’t promise that i’ll always say yes, because i have to feel comfortable with the person doing so, but it’s always worth a shot.

BODY BUILD: his body is lean and meant for agile movements. he might not look it, but his frame can take a punch.
NOTABLE PHYSICAL TRAITS: his smile, dimples, might be the first thing one would notice. sightless eyes, several scars.
BIO
( mix between MCU/616 )
( THIS IS A ROUGH BIO. it’s a mixed canon between the netflix show and the comic ‘man without fear’ by frank miller. in the comics, matt’s father died when he was in college. however, i’m following the netflix canon and going by matt’s father dying when he was still young, therefore grew up at st. agnes’ orphanage. )
-MATTHEW GREW UP IN A CRAPPY APARTMENT IN THE CRAP END OF HELL’S KITCHEN, raised by none other than Jack Murdock. Jack was a boxer, always saying he had more brawns than brains. Not wanting his son to grow up like him, Jack urged Matthew to focus on studying. Because of this, Matt dealt with a lot of bullying due to his nose always being in a book & sticking to himself. The other students would mockingly call him ‘DareDevil,’ meant to be ironic because they considered him to be a coward as Matt would often do his best to avoid physical confrontation. While his dad was training in the gym, Matt would watch him and shadowbox. He’d practice in the gym when his father was none the wiser to take out his frustrations.
-MATT LOST HIS SIGHT WHEN HE WAS NINE YEARS OLD. He learned his father was boxing in fixed fights to help support them. Under threat of bodily harm to both him and his son, Jack Murdock became an enforcer for the mob. Matt overheard his father being fixed up for a fight and, disappointed by this, ran from the gym alone only to find a blind mind staying into the path of an oncoming truck. Though Matt managed to push the guy out of the way, the truck had swerved and its load spilled and splashed into Matt’s eyes, blinding him. It had been carrying a radioactive isotope. While Matthew was recovering in the hospital, he realized he could hear and smell things he shouldn’t be able to. He couldn’t see, but he could sense what was around him. Matt describes it as a ‘world on fire.’ Everything burns. The louder the sounds, the more clearly the world is.
-MATT SEEMED TO LOSE HIMSELF AFTER THE INCIDENT. While he tried to keep his head up for his father, he fell into depression. He spent a lot of his time in church with a priest named Father Lantom, though most of the time was spent throwing cynical comments, one after another, that resulted in a lecture or two. Somehow, on one of these visits, a blind man named Stick showed interest in him. The man took Matt out for ice cream, innocent as it was, and helped him focus on sounds and smells far better than he had before. He took up training under Stick, learning the ways of the Chaste. He learned fast and hard, under pressure and often physical and mental abuse.
-JACK MURDOCK WAS A PROUD MAN. He didn’t like to be looked down upon, but he did what he could to give Matthew a good life. He would lose fixed fights to get fast cash, just to put dinner on the table. He’d come home with terrible cuts and bruises, and Matt would take his time to stitch him up and care for him. But his pride got to him. Wanting to prove to Matty that he was worth something, he took up a fight with a promoter named ‘the Fixer.’ He was supposed to lose the fight, but he wanted to prove to Matt that he was worth something. He was shot dead, and Matt heard it from their apartment.
-NOW AN ORPHAN, Matthew spent his time between studying and training with Stick. His anger grew, and he became harder to control. Stick wanted Matthew to be his soldier in the war, but he refused to conform. He didn’t want to kill; he couldn’t do the things Stick could without remorse. Since his father’s death, he kept track of the men responsible, and when he felt he could take them on confidently, he went after them. None of the men were killed, but they were beat so bad that some of them would spend the rest of their life in a hospital. It didn’t bring him the relief he wanted, but a part of him was satisfied. Stick had warned him that he couldn’t be in the Chaste with outside influences, warned him not to go after the men. That’s why Matt could no longer find him after he returned, even after trying to search for several days.
-THOUGH MATT DOES CONTINUE TO TRAIN HIS BODY AND MIND, Matthew focuses on school with the intention to become a lawyer. After trying to stop crime on the street himself, he realized that there was more that needed to be done if he wanted true justice to persevere. With money that Jack saved & earned from his last fight, Matt had enough money to send himself to college. Columbia Law School, where he befriends Foggy Nelson. He also meets & falls in love with Elektra Natchios, a woman who he ignites his desire for adventure & excitement. ( I follow ultimate Daredevil & Elektra for their history together ). Though they were clearly in love, circumstances, in the end, pushed them apart. Their moral beliefs didn’t align, though she never strayed far from his thoughts.
CANON VERSES
MAIN VERSE
- follows the events the netflix show ( with canon influence ), particularly between season 2-3.- unless someone asks, i usually write this as though the events of the MCU don't exactly exist. If i'm interacting with a character that is in the MCU, then I will have it as though matt is aware of the events of the mcu.
earth 65
- while i'm not particularly familiar with comic canon, i will use this vere when my partner prefers it. i usually base the timeline around the run of mark waid.
EARTH - 65
- WHILE MAGGIE MURDOCK WAS RELIGIOUS, ONE SMALL CHANGE IN HER PATH SENT HER ON THE ROAD TO BECOMING A PARALEGAL/ACTRESS. THEREFORE, RELIGION WASN’T ENTIRELY IMPORTANT IN THE MURDOCK FAMILY, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS ACKNOWLEDGED FROM TIME TO TIME. MATT WAS BLINDED WHEN WALKING ACROSS THE ROAD WITH HIS MOTHER, BUT WHILE HE WAS ONLY BLINDED, MAGGIE WAS LEFT IN A COMA SHE NEVER CAME OUT OF. HE STILL SAT AT HER SIDE DURING THIS TIME, BUT SHE WAS GONE. SHORTLY AFTER THIS, HIS FATHER IS KILLED MUCH THE SAME WAY AS HE DID IN 616 AND THE NETFLIX SHOW, TRYING TO SHOW HIS SON THAT PEOPLE CAN MAKE A CHANGE.- BECAUSE RELIGION WASN’T A HUGE PART OF HIS LIFE, MATT DIDN’T HAVE IT TO FALL BACK ON WHEN HE LOST HIS PARENTS. HIS ANGER REALLY HAD NO WHERE TO GO. HE COULDN’T CHANNEL IT THROUGH HIS FAITH. WHEN HE MEETS STICK, THE ANGER IS PLACED IN FIGHTING. BUT THAT ANGER WAS TOO MUCH FOR EVEN STICK AT TIMES. UNFORTUNATELY, STICK IS KILLED BY THE HAND. HAVING LOST TOO MANY PEOPLE ALREADY, THAT ANGER WAS TURNED ON THOSE RESPONSIBLE AND HE KILLED THEM. THE HAND WAS IMPRESSED AND PRETTY MUCH STOLE HIM AWAY TO JAPAN, WHERE THEY TRAINED HIM IN THEIR WAYS. SINCE HE WAS VULNERABLE, LOST, AND FURIOUS, MATT WAS MOLDED FAIRLY EASILY.- LATER ON IN LIFE, HE COMES BACK AND HE FINDS A MENTOR IN FISK. THIS DOESN’T LAST LONG, HOWEVER, AND FISK IS ARRESTED. MATT BECOMES THE KINGPIN IN HIS PLACE.

NON-CANON VERSES
- - jack murdock was a fighter. and in a world such as the continent, it was either fight or die. taking his son with him, jack took to fighting in paid tournaments in different cities. he tried his best to make a living for his son, matthew. but upon gaining fame, some tried to fix the fights jack took place in. refusing to set a bad example for his son, jack continued as he did without faltering. some bad people had put money on him, some being witchers from the school of the cat. jack's life was forfeit, and matt was taken as collateral, left to live a hard life in the traveling caravans of the school of the cat, dyn marve.
- - matthew was trained by a witcher named stick, a man who was both as heartless & blunt as his namesake. he trained matt well, though nothing could prepare the boy for the trial of grasses. the school of the cat was known for their experimentations on the mutations & potions used to create witchers. if those who took on the trial didn't die, they often came out worse than any could imagine. for matthew it was different. he came out blind, eyes as white as clouds on a clear day. most thought him a lost cause, but it was proven that he could see, hear, and feel so much more than his brothers & sisters. his eyes were an advantage even amongst the humans of cities, often letting matthew pass as a homeless, blind beggar when need be.
- - it was well known that the school of cat, after being chased from their seat at stygga, resorted to violence, thievery, and assassinations to get by. they were nothing more than hired mercenaries, and they taught this to all the new witchers. matthew never agreed with this, despite stick trying to beat his morals out of him. Matthew was just raised differently. when he could no longer stand watching his brothers take advantage of innocent people, he took his leave from his school.
- - matthew faced a harsh reality on his own. he was a witcher, hated by all those who couldn't understand him; and even those of other witcher schools looked upon him with disdain due to the history his school has. shunned by the humans of the world and even his own bretheren, Matthew makes his way in life alone. he follows the code of the witcher, the one that was truly meant to be followed. he does, however, make a name for himself in other ways. across many cities in the continent, a masked man often stops crime from happening, saving those in need.

- - while being a lawyer had always been matthew's dream, losing elektra had broken something important inside him. she left only a week before foggy & matt were to take their final exam. distraught and left in a manic episode, Matthew locked himself away, unable to cope with the stress from school and also the pain of abandonment. He missed the exam, despite foggy's attempts to rouse him.
- - feeling lost, matthew turned to his faith once more, almost obsessively. father lantom thought it'd be a terrible path for him, but matthew decided to fully dedicate his life to god. he followed priesthood. thankfully, he had taken most of the courses needed, and anything he did not, he took up the next year.
- - he followed under father lantom in hell's kitchen, as there was no better priest to take after. but matthew still continued to struggle with his inner demons, often disappearing into the night in a black mask to take justice into his own hands. when wilson fisk came into the picture, foggy asked for some help in legal advisement, hence his involvement in the mess.
